SEM Wealth Management was founded in 1992 by Rick Gage, an engineer experienced in the use of statistical design and optimization. SEM's co-owner, Jeff Hybiak joined SEM in 1998. Today the team at SEM is comprised of both engineering and finance professionals who combine their knowledge and experience to navigate the uncertainties of the stock market. Our approach to the financial markets utilizes technical analysis to develop computer-driven investment models. These proprietary models, developed through extensive back-testing, have guided SEM's investment approach since its formation.
As of March 2021, SEM manages 3500+ accounts and over $700 million of client assets. Founded in Tucson, Arizona, SEM opened an office in the Richmond, Virginia area in late 2017 to better serve our east coast clients and advisors. Having dual operations centers on both coasts provides additional protection and support for all of our clients in case of a disaster or emergency.

Rick earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He founded SEM in 1992. When Rick is not following the markets, he enjoys long walks with his wife, Mary and riding his mountain bike in the foothills of Tucson, AZ.
Jeff Hybiak, CFA
Chief Investment Officer / Chief Operating Officer
Jeff is a CFA Charterholder and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Finance & Accounting emphasis) from the University of Northern Colorado. He has worked in the field of accounting and finance since 1992 and joined Strategic Equity Management, Inc. in October 1998. Jeff relocated to Virginia to open SEM's east coast office in 2017. Outside of SEM, Jeff is part of the worship team at LifePointe Christian Church in Williamsburg, VA where he plays the keyboard and bass guitar. He also leads a small group Bible study.

Stephen D. Goad
Manager of Investment Research
Stephen received BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA, in 1977, 1978, and 1985, respectively. From 1981 to 1997 he performed both research and design work in the power electronics field. In 1995 Dr. Goad began research in market technical analysis and trading system development and in January 1998 joined SEM Wealth Management.
Garland Scott & Tim McCain
Business Development & Consultant (BDC) Director
The Business Development & Consultant (BDC) Director works with financial advisors to assist them in better managing their practice. The BDC Director assists each financial advisor in developing a process and investment line-up to meet the needs of their unique client base.
Garland received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He joined SEM in 2018. Outside of work, Garland enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 kids. As a family they enjoy following several different sports. He has also spent many years coaching youth football and baseball.
Tim received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with a minor in Finance, and his MBA from the University of Phoenix. He has been with SEM since 2006. Outside of work, Tim is an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and hiking with his family and dogs.
Advisor Services & Operations Manager
Brandi received her Associates Degree in Business Management and has over 20 years of back office & customer service experience. She has been with SEM since 2001. Outside of work, Brandi enjoys watching her teenage twins play soccer and spending time with her adult children and grandkids.
Client Portfolio Manager
Cody received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Accounting emphasis) from the University of Arizona. He has been with SEM since March 2017. Cody also helps with the teen program at the Bridge Christian Church in Tucson, AZ.
Executive Assistant/Investment Advisor Representative
Shannon received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. She joined SEM in 2002. When not in the office, Shannon spends as much time as possible in the forest near her home in New Mexico.
Director of Technology
Dustin received his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology (Security emphasis) from Western Governor's University. He started contract work for SEM in late 2017 and joined full-time in August 2018. Outside of work, Dustin likes playing the guitar, studying apologetics, and enjoying all that comes with raising his first child with his wife. He is also active in several ministries at LifePointe Christian Church.
Business Development Associate/Marketing Manager
Courtney received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Marketing emphasis) and minor in Psychology from the University of Arizona. She joined SEM part-time in 2016 while still in college and joined full-time in January 2020. Outside of work, Courtney enjoys coaching/playing volleyball and hiking. She also serves in the Pre-K class at LifePointe Christian Church.
